JOHANNESBURG – The Fees Commission has completed its work but will only submit the final report to President Jacob Zuma within the next two months.
Initially, the commission was meant to wrap up last year but was granted an extension by the Presidency to conclude its work at the end of June.
The commission says it’s well within the terms of the founding legislation which grants the chairperson of the commission 60 days to put final touches to the report.
It was established to probe the feasibility of free higher education following nationwide Fees Must Fall student protests.
Spokesperson Musa Ndwandwe said: “We have complied fully with the requirement of the legislation that brought this commission into existence. And after having given it enough time, I hope and we are confident that the president will make further announcements.”
