Four arrested in violent Hout Bay protests

CAPE TOWN – Four people have been arrested in connection with violent protests in Hout Bay.

Violent demonstrations have entered a third day.

Imizamo Yethu Residents are angry at the slow pace of rebuilding the area after a devastating fire in March.

The police’s Novela Potelwa says additional resources have been deployed.

“We have also opened cases of arson and malicious violence to property. Four males have been arrested for public violence and they are due to make a court appearance soon. The SAPS recognises the rights of individuals to protest, however, we urge people to protest within the confines of the law.”
