The proclamation giving the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) power to interrogate certain deals conducted at the SABC is still being considered by President Jacob Zuma.

Presidency spokesperson Bongani Ngqulunga says certain processes have to be followed.

The proclamation was sent to the Presidency in May. When signed, the SIU will have the power to probe the public broadcaster.

However, the Presidency says Zuma is still applying his mind.

The proclamation follows the Parliamentary ad-hoc committee’s investigation of the state of the SABC, in which mismanagement at the corporation was uncovered.

It will give the SIU the mandate to investigate, subpoena, and interrogate witnesses under oath.
