Saturday’s weather: Cold morning, cool to warm afternoon to start the weekend

It will be mostly cold across most parts of the country on Saturday morning, but conditions will become cool to warm in places in the afternoon, according to the South African Weather Service

An intense cold front is expected to hit the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape from Sunday until Tuesday, extending to the northeastern areas of the country. The public and small stock farmers are advised that strong to gale force winds are expected with cold conditions; light snowfall is likely over the high-lying areas.

It will be a fine and cool day in Gauteng.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Mpumalanga will be partly cloudy in the east at first with morning fog over the central Highveld, otherwise fine and cool, but warm over the Lowveld.

Limpopo will be partly cloudy and cool to warm.

In the North West, it will be fine and cool to warm.

The Free State will be fine and cool.

Conditions in the Northern Cape will be fine and cool to warm.

Fog patches are expected in the morning with moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly wind, becoming strong at times.

In the Western Cape, it will be partly cloudy and cool over the south coast, otherwise it will be fine and warm over the adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly north of Cape Columbine, otherwise moderate to fresh north-westerly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy in the south at first, otherwise fine and warm but cool along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy in the south at first, otherwise fine and warm but cool in place along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly becoming light and variable in places by late afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning mist over the north-east, otherwise fine and warm but cool in the west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate northerly to north-westerly becoming gentle to moderate south-westerly in the south by late morning.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
